Collection: Anodes
Anodes—often called sacrificial anodes—are metal pieces attached to parts of a boat to prevent corrosion. They are usually made from zinc, aluminum, or magnesium, depending on the water type.
They’re called sacrificial because they are designed to corrode first, protecting the more important metal components of your boat.
🔧 Why Boats Need Anodes
When a boat sits in water, different metals on the hull, engine, and fittings create a small electrical reaction called galvanic corrosion. Left unprotected, this reaction will slowly eat away at expensive components like:
- Outboard and inboard engine parts
- Propellers
- Stern drives / outdrives
- Trim tabs
- Shafts and rudders
- Metal hull fittings
Anodes sacrifice themselves so these parts don’t corrode.
