Seakeeper 1 Overview and Function

Introduction

The Seakeeper 1 is a compact marine stabilization system engineered specifically for smaller boats, starting at 23 feet. It was designed to deliver the same roll‑reduction performance found in larger Seakeeper models while fitting the size, power, and installation constraints of small vessels.

Key Design Features

  • Flush Mount Design: The Seakeeper 1 integrates cleanly into the deck or structure of the boat. This reduces installation complexity and preserves valuable onboard space.

  • 12V DC Power Operation: Unlike larger models that require higher‑voltage systems or generators, the Seakeeper 1 runs entirely on 12V DC power. This makes it compatible with the electrical systems of most small boats.

  • Flexible Installation Locations: Its compact footprint and simplified mounting system allow it to be installed in a wide range of onboard locations, making it suitable for both new builds and retrofits.

How the Seakeeper 1 Works

The Seakeeper 1 uses gyroscopic stabilization to reduce boat roll by up to 95 percent. Its operation is based on three core components:

High‑Speed Flywheel

A precisely engineered flywheel spins at high speed inside a sealed sphere. This spinning mass stores angular momentum, which is the foundation of gyroscopic stabilization.

Vacuum‑Sealed Sphere

The flywheel operates within a vacuum enclosure, reducing friction and allowing it to spin faster and more efficiently. This design also minimizes maintenance requirements.

Controlled Precession

When waves cause the boat to roll, the Seakeeper 1 tilts fore and aft, a motion known as precession. This movement redirects the flywheel’s angular momentum to counteract the roll. A computer‑controlled hydraulic or mechanical system manages the precession rate to ensure smooth, responsive stabilization.

Benefits for Small Boats

  • Improved Comfort: Dramatically reduces side‑to‑side motion, making time on the water more enjoyable.

  • Enhanced Safety: A more stable platform reduces the risk of falls and improves handling in rough conditions.

  • Easy Integration: The flush mount design and 12V power compatibility simplify installation and broaden the range of boats that can benefit from stabilization.

Summary

The Seakeeper 1 brings advanced gyroscopic stabilization to smaller boats through a compact, efficient, and easy‑to‑install design. By combining a high‑speed flywheel, vacuum‑sealed technology, and controlled precession, it delivers significant roll reduction and a smoother, safer boating experience.

Innovative Cooling System

Our patented cooling system allows the flywheel to spin at an extremely high rate of speed, providing ultimate performance in the smallest and lightest package possible.

Vacuum Sealed

Seakeeper’s vacuum encapsulation enables the flywheel to spin roughly three times faster, cuts flywheel weight by two-thirds and halves power requirements. Moreover, because the critical components (flywheel, bearings, and motor) are sealed in a vacuum, they are isolated from the marine environment.

Active Control

Seakeeper’s active control optimizes gyro torque, providing an unsurpassed level of performance. Unlike a passively controlled gyro, which must be turned off in the roughest conditions and/or at higher speeds, the Seakeeper is effective at all speeds and can be used in all sea conditions.

Intuitive Dash Display

Control your Seakeeper with the push of a button on our new user-friendly dash display. Not only is the display simple to use, but it integrates into your existing dash units for optimal performance.
