🔧 Identifying & Maintaining Your Trailer Wheel Bearings

Don’t overlook your trailer’s wheel bearings. They’re small but critical—keeping your wheels spinning freely and your towing experience safe. Worn, dry, or loose bearings can be hazardous to you and everyone else on the road.

🛠️ How to Identify Your Bearings:

  • Step 1: Remove the hub and inspect the bearing and cup for stamped part numbers (e.g. LM67048/10).

  • Step 2: If numbers are unclear, measure the Inner Diameter (ID) and Outer Diameter (OD) of both bearings.

  • Step 3: Always replace bearings as a set—cone and cup together.

📏 Common Bearing Types:

Axle Type Inner Bearing (ID x OD x W mm) Outer Bearing (ID x OD x W mm)
LM (Holden) 31.75 x 59.13 x 15.88 19.05 x 45.24 x 15.49
Slimline (Ford) 34.99 x 59.13 x 15.88 21.99 x 45.24 x 15.49
Composite 31.75 x 59.13 x 15.88 21.99 x 45.24 x 15.49
Parallel / ESS 34.99 x 59.13 x 15.88 34.99 x 59.13 x 15.88
ALKO 2T / TX 50 x 90 x 21.75 31.75 x 62 x 18.16
Dexter USA 26.99 x 50.29 x 14.22 26.99 x 50.29 x 14.22

🔍 Maintenance Tips:

  • Inspect bearings every 6–12 months, even if the trailer isn’t in use.

  • Look for signs of wear, overheating, lack of grease, or freeplay.

  • Always check and replace seals—they protect your bearings from premature wear.

  • If unsure, consult a professional. Incorrect fitment can be dangerous.
